EEF insurance initiative cuts premiums by up to 46%

Release date: 21/07/2008

A new service, which rewards companies for implementing good health and safety measures by lowering their insurance premiums, has won a major award. EEF Insurance Services (EEFIS) was presented with the Broking Initiative of the Year award at the 2008 British Insurance Awards held recently at the Royal Albert Hall.

The service, a joint initiative between EEF and independent broker R K Harrison, assesses risk to the company against a checklist of 22 health and safety-related measures and initiatives. Companies with a high score will see their efforts rewarded in the premium and benefits offered.

EEFIS is supported by a panel of blue chip insurance companies: Allianz, AXA, Norwich Union and Travellers. These companies have agreed to take account of EEFIS scorecard results when calculating premiums. All of them are invited to quote for each piece of the business; therefore a competitive process produces the premium and enhanced cover offered.

This innovative scheme was piloted in the West Midlands last year before being rolled out nationally at the beginning of this year. EEF members who have converted to EEFIS have saved up to 46% off their existing premium with one company saving over £100,000.

Malcolm Green, Business Development Manager at EEF West Midlands, said,

“We believe that companies that are serious about their obligations and that take positive steps to reduce risk through good health and safety measures should benefit from their actions.”

Stuart Rootham, EEFIS Director added:

“This award is recognition of all of the hard work in providing EEF members with a service that not just meets their expectations, but exceeds them. The response from members to the service has been quite fantastic”.

This is the fourth award for EEF in the last six months. The employers’ organisation was rated the top support organisation for manufacturing businesses in the UK, by The Manufacturer Magazine for the sixth year in a row. They were also named “Overall Winner” in the prestigious Occupational Health Awards 2007 for its unique Managing Sickness Absence Toolkit.

The third award was for Woodland Grange, EEF’s conference and training centre near Leamington Spa. The centre won the coveted gold award, for Best Conference Venue in the Coventry & Warwickshire region at the Godiva awards.
