EEF welcomes Capital Gains Tax commitment but removal of uncertainty remains a priority

Release date: 28/11/2007

EEF, the manufacturers’ organisation welcomed today’s commitment by the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rt Hon Alistair Darling MP, to announce proposals on Capital Gains Tax before the christmas recess.

However, EEF urged the Chancellor to announce any measures as soon as possible so as to remove the uncertainty which is surrounding key business decisions.

Martin Temple, Director General, said:

"We welcome the fact that the government is listening to business concerns. However, we remain concerned that the uncertainty is undermining the confidence of business to take key decisions, many of which are happening today."

Notes to Editors

EEF has presented it’s own proposals to HM Treasury based on restoring the differential between business and non-business related assets
