The principle aim of this survey is to provide organisations in the engineering and manufacturing industry with an authoritative source of information on the market value of individual jobs. It can also assist organisations in the establishment of job grading and salary structure.
The use of the figures quoted in the survey will vary from organisation to organisation depending upon the reward strategy. Organisations may wish to establish themselves as a ‘median pay company’ or and ‘upper quartile pay company’. Other factors which will need to be taken into account are the location of the organsiation, its size (both in terms of employee numbers and company turnover) and the industry sub-sector in which it operates. All these factors can have a significant impact upon the market rate for any given job.
Coverage
All employees included in the survey will spend at least 80% of their time undertaking the job in question. Directors, managers, engineers and apprentices are all excluded from the survey.
Basic Salary
The figures quoted in this survey are for basic salary. No account is taken of shift pay, overtime, stand-by or call-out payments or any other unconsolidated bonuses.
Sample Size
In order to provide a reliable analysis this survey only reports data when the sample size permits a valid comparison to be made. All calculations have been based upon the salary rates for individual employees.
- Where the sample size is between 5 and 9 individuals the only analysis provided is the mean average
- Where the sample size is between 10 and 19 individuals the average and median have been calculated
- Where the sample size is 20 individuals or more the average, median and quartiles have been calculated
