Energy Review submission

EEF's response to the government consultation on energy has re-iterated calls for a balanced long term energy strategy which includes all options, including nuclear. In addition, the association has urged government to step up measures to encourage investment in energy research and energy efficiency, on the back of figures which show the UK invests only 0.02% in research into new technologies, a figure which is one tenth of the United States and less than all the other EU 15 countries except Portugal. Separately, Ian Peters, Director of External Affairs attended the latest winter energy forum, chaired by Malcolm Wicks MP the energy minister. Amongst other issues, the forum discussed planning scenarios for next winter, a topic on which EEF are engaged in close discussions with the DTI. A copy of the full submission is attached.
