Air quality standards and air pollution control

All kinds of commercial and industrial activity result in the release of pollutants into the atmosphere, creating air pollution, as well as workplace air quality issues.

All kinds of commercial and industrial activity result in the release of pollutants into the atmosphere, creating air pollution, as well as workplace air quality issues.

Control of air pollution and air quality standards is nowadays the responsibility of local authorities and is enforced by air pollution legislation. Various pollutants which are emitted by vehicles and fixed installations are covered by these regulations.

It is the duty of the local authority to ensure that air quality standards as set out in the Regulations are met. To maintain control of air pollution levels, the local authority can restrict the activities of businesses in their area. As such, businesses may find that planning decisions are influenced by consideration of air quality standards and the adoption of appropriate company air pollution control

EEF can offer guidance on managing air quality standards as well as advise on forthcoming and current air pollution legislation.
