A ttached as an Appendix are further details of the Government’s White Paper on pensions reform, “Security in Retirement: Towards a New Pensions System”, that was published on 25 May 2006.

The attached Appendix summaries the following three key areas of the government’s comprehensive package of proposals for reforming the UK’s pensions system:

(a) A new low-cost pension saving scheme

(b) New state pension arrangements that will be accompanied by a gradual rise in the State Pension Age

(c) The regulation of occupational pension schemes.

3. The Appendix also details the areas, particularly in relation to operational aspects of the new low-cost pension saving scheme, on which the government is consulting over the next few months before publishing its final proposals later this year.

4. The government is seeking views on this White Paper and, in particular, the specific issues on which it is consulting by 11 September 2006.
