Disability discrimination law in the UK is particularly complex, with distinct differences between disability discrimination law and the rest of the discrimination legislation. Legislation on disability discrimination was first established in the Disability Discrimination Act 1995, before being revised in the Disability Discrimination Act 2005.
The disability discrimination act imposes a duty on employers to make reasonable adjustments to their premises or working practices to accommodate the needs of disabled people (disability discrimination). If an employer fails to meet that duty, that amounts to disability discrimination.
While there are three forms of disability discrimination, all areas of discrimination law have two concepts of discrimination in common. EEF advisers help ensure that members are fully compliant with the last ten years of legislation in this field, and that changes required by the Disability Discrimination Act 2005 have been implemented.
