Informing and consulting - is your business covered from 6 April 2008?

From 6 April 2008, if your business employs between 50 and 99 employees, you may come under a new obligation, under ICE legislation, to inform and consult your employees about work-related issues.

In this feature we explain what the ICE legislation (under the Information and Consultation of Employees Regulations 2004 might mean. We also remind those companies already covered by the legislation what their options are. Larger companies are already covered.

We look at what this will mean for those companies about to come under its umbrella.

This feature is divided into the following sections:

Are you automatically covered by the new law?

Do you need to do anything to implement the new law?

Advantages of a voluntary agreement

What kind of voluntary agreement?

What is a ‘pre-existing’ agreement?

What should you do if you receive a valid request to start statutory negotiations?

Enforcement and penalties
