notification
Organisations that process personal information by computer may have to notify the Information Commissioner, so that their details can be entered in a public register.
There is a fee for notification, which currently stands at £35, and notification must be renewed annually. An organisation has no duty to notify if it processes personal information only for one or more of these purposes:
staff administration;
advertising;
marketing and public relations; or
accounts and records.
The Information Commissioner has produced a guide to the notification procedure ( Data protection links ).
