current status of national agreements
On 16 November 1989 the EEF advised the CSEU that it was no longer prepared to continue collective bargaining at national level on substantive issues affecting manual workers. The effect of this statement was to terminate the process of national bargaining; it did not cancel or terminate any of the national agreements.
In general, the existing national agreements continue to apply at company level where they have been operated in the past, until changed by agreement at the company level.
The EEF has not conducted national bargaining with the staff unions for some 20 years. All terms and conditions of employment for staff workers - white collar workers - are determined at company level.
