national shift agreement

The Double Dayshift and/or Three Shift System Agreement of 19 May 1965 provides for minimum conditions for these types of shift working:

  • double dayshift
    a shift week of 37 and a half hours worked from Monday to Friday, with five shifts of 7 and a half hours (with 30 minute unpaid meal breaks), and recommended hours of work from 6am to 2pm and 2pm to 10pm;
  • three shift system
    a third shift of 10pm to 6am is also worked.

The arrangement of the hours can be varied from this pattern, but it is open to any company to utilise any other form of shift arrangement to suit production needs by arrangement with employees.
