The overtime and nightshift agreement of 30 July 1956 provides that a full day has to be worked before overtime is payable, except in the case of absence due to:
- certified sickness to the satisfaction of the employer;
- laying-off on account of working all the previous night;
- absence with permission of the employer, or enforced idleness.
Overtime is calculated on a daily basis and is paid for as follows:
- Weekdays: first two hours per day, time-and-third. Thereafter, time-and-half.
- All overtime on nightshift is paid for at time-and-half.
- Saturdays: time-and-half.
- Sundays: double time.
Except in certain specified circumstances no worker shall be required to work more than 24 hours' overtime in any four weeks.
Nightshift arrangements include 39 hours spread over five nights, or four long nightshifts and one short nightshift (of not less than four hours), or four long nights. Normal nightshift hours are paid at the rate of time-and-third; overtime, at time-and half. All hours worked between 12 midnight Saturday and 12 midnight Sunday are paid for at double-time rates. Work continued beyond Sunday midnight and into Monday morning is paid at time-and-half.
