retaining employment records

In order to comply with the data protection legislation, a company should not retain personal information about a former employee any longer than is necessary, and information that is no longer needed should be disposed of securely. The Data Protection Code (code of practice ) advises employers to establish standard retention periods for particular categories of information and gives guidance on how to identify what those periods should be.
