Following on from EEF's Health & Safety, and Education & Skills teams' successful document for engineering companies, a new website has been launched to help companies in any sector run safe and effective educational visits.
There is increasing evidence that a well-run, enjoyable company visit has a tremendous influence on the future career choices of young people, as well as on their attitudes to the sector as a whole.
EEF, DfES and the Caterpillar Foundation have launched the site, together with our partners businessdynamics, the Industrial Trust, Trident Trust, the National Education Business Partnership Network, British Chambers of Commerce, and SETNET.
The site has sections on the benefits of offering workplace visits, how to get the most from visits, as well as a risk assessment and planning tool to guide companies through the necessary process to ensure compliance with safety procedures.

Trident Trust has created an online system to teach young people about health and safety on school visits and work experience placements. Click on http://www.placementsurvivalguide.com to see their guidance. You might like to suggest young people coming to visit your company have completed this introduction.
DfES has also published guidelines on school trips safety. These guidelines include basic model forms for risk assessment and parental consent and information - www.teachernet.gov.uk/visits , also www.teachernet.gov.uk/emergencies/planning/educationalvisits
