Shape the Future is a campaign to raise awareness of engineering and technology as a stimulating career option and an essential and exciting part of modern Britain. It will start young people on a journey, making connections between the issues they face and the solutions engineering and technology can provide. And, to help them on their way, it will signpost opportunities for them to do one more thing – such as joining a Young Engineers club at their school or another similar initiative, participating in a classroom discussion or logging onto a website for more information.

Shape the Future photo competition
April 2006 marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of Isambard Kingdom Brunel, whose contribution to engineering and technology shaped the way we live our lives today. The theme of the in augural Shape the Future photo competition celebrates how engineering and technology improves our lives.
Writing competition
The Academy has joined forces with Bosch to develop a writing competition, in association with a media partner. The competition will provide an opportunity for young people to write about an aspect of engineering and technology of interest to them. Further details will be available at the launch of the competition, which is anticipated in the New Year.

Nuffield Curriculum Centre will develop resources through its ‘Primary Solutions’ programme, to capture young people’s imagination about science, engineering and technology.
