Linking training to your business strategy - new free tool from Investors in People

Investors in People UK have launched a new online diagnostic tool to help companies plan their training more effectively

The new Business Improvement Diagnostic Tool is free to companies who sign up to use it. It is not specifically linked to the Investors in People Standard and does not require registration to apply for the Standard.

It can be used by a whole company, a single department, or even to manage a specific project.

The Business Improvement Diagnostic Tool element takes you through 25 questions which help you identify any weaknesses in your HR and training strategies, and then presents these findings in a feedback report. The next stage allows you to devise plans to improve, and then identify training needs to meet those plans.

There is also a pro-forma for a Training Needs Analysis which explains why it should be done, how it should be done, and allows you to fill in details online.

The tool is particularly useful in its summary of each section into a report which you can print out or save.

EEF members, your EEF regional Association can help you get the most from Investors in People and from this new online service.

Recent EEF research found that companies who have, or are working towards the IiP standard reported higher productivity gains from training and staff development. EEF recommends that all companies look at the IiP Standard and assess its value in linking their training activity to a clear business plan.
