Member countries of the WorldSkills Organisation have been invited to join its new WorldSkills Skills Exchange Programme. The Skills Exchange Programme will be launched at WorldSkills Japan 2007, and exchanges will be promoted in a range of skills which are likely to be:
- High end engineering: polymechanics, CNC, mechatronics
- Electrical: domestic and industrial
- Hairdressing
- Plumbing
- Floristry
- Motor mechanics
- Graphic design
The Skills Exchange Programme will invite former WorldSkills competitors aged 23 to 28 years of age, to take up placements in member countries. It could be advantageous for 2 ex-competitors to swap their job roles; however, this is not essential.
The duration of the placements can range from 3 to 18 months.
What's in it for employers?
- the guarantee of a high quality WorldSkills champion within your workforce
- the chance to learn from the experience of an acclaimed employee from a member country
- links with like-minded employers in the global skills market.
What does an employer have to do?
- facilitate suitable accommodation
- pay a real wage
- provide information and guidance on practical, professional and cultural aspects of the host country
- monitor, review and evaluate the placement, with the champion and the WorldSkills Organisation.
