Due for introduction in September 2009, the Manufacturing Diploma will be for all 14-19 year old students who want to get a broad understanding of the manufacturing sub-sectors. The Diploma will provide the basic knowledge for all students wishing to gain an understanding of manufacturing practices and processes, whilst also offering the opportunity for the application of technical skills in a real work environment.
The Manufacturing Diploma covers the following manufacturing sub-sectors:
- Paint, coatings and inks
- Building products, bricks, paving etc
- Printing
- Extraction, mining and quarrying
- Glass manufacturing
- Glazing Ceramics and pottery
- Furniture
- Man-made fibres
- Leather manufacturing
- Technical textiles
- Laundry and dry cleaning
- Footwear, apparel and leather goods
- Bakery
- Meat and Poultry
- Food and Drink Manufacturing
- Chemicals
- Refineries
- Brewing and Distilling
- Process manufacturing
- Oil and gas
- Polymer
- Nuclear Metal productions
- Electronics Machinery equipment
- Automotive
- Marine
- Aerospace
- Other transport
- Rubber tyres
- Basic metals
- Whole metals
- Ores
- Waste and Scrap
The Diploma at each Level will incorporate learning in three themes:
- Business and Enterprise
- Science and Design
- Production Systems
