How we influence government and policy makers

EEF presents the views of its members to key policy makers: government officials, funding bodies and influential individuals.

In the regions

We represents our members on a range of issues in education, training and skills. As well as encouraging members to develop best practice in workforce learning, we actively lobby to ensure the engineering industry in the region has access to the best and brightest young people. This means getting involved in schools and colleges, bringing companies into the curriculum and support activities. We also work with regional funding bodies such as the local Learning and Skills Councils, and local political bodies, to ensure the economic/political focus is right for business.

At a national level

We meet regularly with ministers and civil servants to reflect the views of our members which relate to national issues. We have bi-annual meetings with the Secretary of State for Education & Skills, as well as meeting ministers for briefings and opportunities for direct member input.
