International GCSEs in the maintained sector in England

EEF gave a short response to this consultation on whether rules should be changed to permit iGCSEs in maintained schools

As the iGCSE does not meet the agreed requirements of the National Curriculum, we do not believe there is a need to further investigate their use in the maintained sector.

With the introduction of the Specialised Diploma, 14-16 education is about to become even more complex, and additional options in terms of iGCSEs will struggle to find their place in the curriculum.

In addition to which, employers would find the addition of a different "version" of GCSE confusing in their recruitment of apprentices and young trainees – they are already dealing with differences between the GCSEs offered by different awarding bodies, and the various papers which young people can study within GCSE.
