Economic Briefing - November 2005

A monthly bulletin examining economic trends for manufacturing, engineering and technology-based businesses.

The short-term UK economic outlook remains uncertain. Once again, the MPC faces a difficult balancing act with inflation likely to stay above target over coming months while growth appears below trend. At the same time there are some encouraging signs in the housing market, along with steady consumer figures and a firm global outlook. This makes it harder to justify an interest rate cut at this time. However, if the outlook for manufacturing or the consumer worsens the MPC should stand ready to act.

In this month's briefing:

  • Inflation
  • Manufacturing Output
  • GDP Growth
  • UK Surveys
  • International Survey
  • Housing Market
  • Consumer spending
  • Market Watch - Japan

The next Economic Briefing will be available on 2nd December
