Economic Briefing - April 2006

EEF's monthly bulletin examining economic trends for manufacturing, engineering and technology-based businesses.

Rates should be held at their current level for the time being. However risks to the UK economy remain; the consumer recovery may prove to be temporary, higher energy/oil prices could depress output and/or push inflation expectations higher and the prospects for trade and investment remain uncertain. The MPC should be ready to act appropriately should any of these risks materialise.

In this month's briefing:

  • March MPC meeting
  • Inflation
  • Inflation expectations
  • Earnings
  • Manufacturing surveys

  • International

The next Economic Briefing will be available on 28th April 2006.
