Economic Briefing - July 2007

With the effects of previous interest rate rises only beginning to feed through, we feel the case for another hike has not been made.

Given the time lag between rate rises and a slowdown in the housing market and in retail sales in the previous rate tightening cycle, the Bank should wait for more information on how its previous rate hikes are feeding through into the economy.

In this month's issue:

  • June MPC meeting
  • Key indicators
  • Bank's agents' business conditions report
  • Average earnings
  • Producer prices
  • Mortgage approvals
  • Retail sales
