Electricity at work

Each year about 1,000 accidents at work involving electric shock and burn are reported to the Health and Safety Executive and about 30 of these are fatal.

Fires started by poor electrical installations cause many other deaths and injuries. Many of these deaths are caused by so called competent staff who fail to achieve “correct isolation”.

Explosions are caused by electrical apparatus or static electricity igniting flammable vapours or dusts.

Course Overview
  • A review of the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 and accompanying Memorandum of Guidance
  • The definition of ‘Duty Holder’ and its application to the employer, employee or self-employed person
  • Consideration of the dangers of shock, burns, fire and electrical explosion and, appropriate methods to prevent electrical accidents
