Electricity at work

Each year about 1,000 accidents at work involving electric shock and burn are reported to the Health and Safety Executive and about 30 of these are fatal.

Fires started by poor electrical installations cause many other deaths and injuries. Many of these deaths are caused by so called competent staff who fail to achieve “correct isolation”.

Explosions are caused by electrical apparatus or static electricity igniting flammable vapours or dusts.

The definition of ‘Duty Holder’ and its application to the employer, employee or self-employed person
Consideration of the dangers of shock, burns, fire and electrical explosion and, appropriate methods to prevent electrical accidents

Gain sufficient knowledge to “prevent danger or, where appropriate, injury”
Understand the key requirements of the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989
Fully understand the dangers of shock, burns and fire/explosions and the necessary precautionary and preventative measures required, including Permits and Safe Systems of Work

Anyone with the responsibility for electrical matters, including Managers, Supervisors, Team Leaders, Health and Safety Professionals, Safety Representatives etc.
