Course Overview

The new Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 places a requirement on all workplaces to appoint a “Responsible Person” and carry out a fire risk assessment. On completion of the course delegates will be fully familiar with the requirements to carry out basic fire risk assessments in accordance with current and future legislative requirements.

This training will provide delegates with the knowledge & understanding to undertake fire risk assessments in offices, small manufacturing and similar premises.

Topics will include:

  • Explanation of The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005
  • Fire Safety Arrangements including:
    • Means of escape
    • Fire Evacuation Drills
    • Fire-fighting equipment in the workplace
    • Identification of fire risks
    • Assessment of fire risks
    • Reporting and following up the fire risk assessment
  • Powers of inspectors
  • Enforcement notices
  • Prohibition notices
  • Alterations notices
  • Offences

    By the end of the training delegates should be able to:
    • Appreciate the requirements imposed on employers by legislation, including the government’s changes to the law concerning fire safety.
    • Undertake fire risk assessments in low risk environments, following the industry standard 5 step approach
    • Recommend appropriate measures to control the risk of fire breaking out, to safeguard against fatalities or serious injury.
    • Know when to call in professional help
    • Document the results of fire risk assessments and the recommendations arising from them
    • Identify ‘best practice’ examples of fire risk assessment methodology, and appropriate sources of guidance
    • Identify and apply effective ’follow up’ actions subsequent to a fire risk assessment
    Who Should Attend?

    Those appointed as the “Responsible Person” for their company and employees who may be required to conduct fire risk assessments in their places of work.
