Since 1998, EEF has seen a growth of 50% in the number of Employment Tribunal claims it handles on behalf of its members. This upsurge has been coupled with the increased cost of getting it wrong, with the maximum compensation award of an unfair dismissal case now at £63,000. The scope of discrimination law (where there is no limit on the compensation available) has widened considerably to include sexual orientation, religion, disability, part-time workers, fixed-term workers, gender reassignment and age.
People spend the majority if their time at work and appreciate that certain rights and obligations govern the employment relationship. There is a constant stream of new law emerging, both from changes to domestic legislation and from new Directives issued by the European Union.
This course examines the origins, sources and structure of employment law in a way that will aim to simplify a complex subject. The law on unfair dismissal and the contractual relationship will be covered, including variations of contracts of employment.
Issues of discrimination, bullying and harassment will be dealt with in an informative and practical way and with real life examples used to illustrate the impact of the law in this area. Family and parental rights and new legislation will also be examined.
Each delegate will be provided with well-recognised, up-todate and authoritative guides and texts to allow them full access to detailed guidance in their normal day to day roles.
