It is vital that line managers have an understanding of the law that determines how organisations deal with disciplinary action and dismissal.

This popular programme provides managers with that knowledge as well as an understanding of how to tackle staff who are underperforming, in order to avoid implementing formal procedures.

The programme will be practical and interactive, giving all participants the opportunity to put new or existing knowledge and skills into practice. To achieve this we will use the following approaches:

• Presentation - lecture style inputs to provide underpinning knowledge and theoretical models for discussion
• Case Studies - used to stimulate discussion, challenge existing practice.
• Syndicate Groups - providing the opportunity for individuals to express their thoughts, share their experiences on issues or questions that they have found challenging.
• Role Plays -an opportunity to apply and demonstrate skills.

• The costs and risks of failing to deal with performance issues.
• The law relating to statutory procedures for discipline and grievance and unfair dismissal.
• What terms a typical disciplinary procedure contains.
• Understanding the root cause of performance problems and how to address them
• How to conduct informal performance meetings and formal disciplinary meetings
