Stress at Work

Course Overview

The HSE defines stress as 'the adverse reaction a person has to excessive pressure or other types of demand placed upon them'. It is now widely accepted that stress can affect anyone. It can no longer be viewed as a 'weakness' in an individual.

While many managers worry that examining stress in their organisation can be 'like opening a can of worms', tackling stress can in fact have real business benefits. It can help improve staff morale and commitment, leading to higher productivity, lower absenteeism and reduced insurance premiums.

This course is designed to show you how to adopt simple solutions to tackling stress within your organisation.

Managing Stress at Work - What can Managers Do?

This one-day workshop for your line managers and supervisors will help them to identify stress in the workplace (causes and effects), support their staff, help to minimise risk and encourage rehabilitation.

Benefits of Attending

You will learn:

  • what stress is (and what it is not) - pressure, resilience and the biology of stress
  • why line managers need to confront and deal with it - legally, commercially and for the well being of their staff
  • what work related and non-work related hazards to look out for - the six workplace stressors identified by the HSE and the life stressors we experience
  • the signs and symptoms of the stressed person - the physical and psychological reactions of someone with unhealthy stress levels
  • the behavioural skills required to help someone who is feeling the negative effects of stress
  • dealing with an emotional or distressed person - feeling confident in offering support and referral.
Who Should Attend?
Line managers, supervisors and HR practitioners.
