This two day course provides a solid practical grasp of the major areas of employment law.

The relevant law is presented in simple straightforward language, avoiding legal jargon. The course is structured as a practical companion to the EEF Employment Guide and will also provide the opportunity for delegates to check that their own procedures comply with legal requirements and hopefully avoid potentially costly claims at Employment Tribunals.

Topics include:

Commencing the Employment Relationship - recruitment, applications and interviews, keeping records, contracts of employment
Rights during employment - pay, NMW, adoption maternity and paternity leave and pay, flexible working, Working Time Regs, public duties
Equal opportunities - sex, race, religion, pregnancy, marriage, sexual orientation, disability, gender re-assignment
Disciplinary and Grievance matters - investigations, statutory procedures and natural justice, “whistleblowers”
Terminating Employment - restrictive covenants, recovering training costs, compromise agreements
Change and Reorganisation - Redundancy (collective and individual), lay-off, transfer of undertakings
Dealing with Trade Unions - TU Rights and protection, recognition
Enforcing Employment Law - Codes of Practice, Employment Tribunals, ACAS, EAT
