Environmental awards - what the judges said

The Environmental Awards are made to companies in the manufacturing sector employing outstanding measures to preserve the environment and combat climate change.

The Environmental Achievement Award

Winner: SAFT Limited

SAFT brought its journey to life for the judges.

The entry highlighted how the company identified unforeseen barriers and showed courage in setting targets at the outset of the project without knowing exactly how they would be met.

Runner Up: Siemens Plc

Niall Kenyon and Lesley Johnson of Siemens, with Steve Hinsley of British Gas Business Energy 360

An excellent entry submitted by Siemens demonstrated cross-functional team working.

The company showed strong planning, energy and effort in accessing external resources.

Runner Up: The Tanfield Group

The Tanfield Group was highly commended because its entry showed a clear focus, impressive management support and good staff buy in, as well as reduced energy wastage.

Runner Up: Anchor Magnets

Anchor Magnets took a long term view of its business model and had a novel focus on material efficiency in a truly collaborative project.

The Climate Change Opportunity Award

Winner: Paton Plant Limited

 

Jonathan Reid, General Manager of Paton Plant Ltd, with Steve Hinsley of British Gas Business Energy 360 and EEF Region Director Alan Hall

Paton Plant Ltd clearly demonstrated its vision, achievement and radical innovation.

The entry included a robust lifecycle analysis, and and showed how a product was brought to market in a very tight timeframe, with an impressive 90% reduction in water usage.

Runner Up: Tegrel Ltd

 

David Oliphant and Keith Pallett of Tegrel Limited with Steve Hinsley of British Gas Business Energy 360

Tegrel Ltd was chosen as a runner-up in this category due to its way of taking advantage of a ‘savvy’ embryonic market opportunity.

The judges felt that entry showed how the company gave consideration to design and developed good partnerships.
