Benefit from duty-free imports of components from outside the EU

Steven Coventry March 20, 2009 09:37

BERR have asked us to publicise the EU Duty Suspension Scheme.

If you:

a) Manufacture in the EU;

b) Are finding it impossible to source EU manufactured components; and

c) Pay more than €20,000 a year in import duty, then you may qualify for the Scheme which allows for duty-free imports of components that are not made in the EU.

It is limited to manufacturers - i.e. it's not for people who import components and then sell them on.   (The idea is that it helps maufacturers compete more effectively against imports of finished goods.)

The deadline for new applications is 15 September 2009 - for which the duty suspension would come into force on 1 July 2010.  Applications are accepted from UK companies that have their production plants either here in the UK or in other parts of the EU.
