Insights into UK manufacturing

Don't panic

EEF is unique (we think) in being the only business organisation that employs a full-time occupational physician, Professor Sayeed Khan.  Here’s his take on swine flu:

"You’re no doubt concerned about the spread of swine flu – 24 hour rolling news coverage is enough to put anyone on edge.
It’s apparent that the virus can spread between humans, but it’s far from clear how dangerous it is in a country with a high standard of living and healthcare.  Authorities are quite rightly taking a very cautious approach until they know more.  The good news is that the UK is extremely well prepared with vast stocks of the antiretroviral drugs that are effective against this strain of flu.

We can all do a few things to help the situation, firstly have a read of the advice on the Health Protection Agency website; secondly relax, the UK’s well prepared to deal with the situation and worrying will just make you feel lousy.  There’s information on our website for member companies and we’ll keep them up to date with any further information.”
