Carbon Reduction Commitment support services

EEF has a deep understanding of the issues facing your business when it comes to reducing your carbon footprint. We were there when CRC was first proposed, and now we're using our experience to help manufacturers with a comprehensive set of services to help your business cope.

Do you understand the impact of the Carbon Reduction Commitment on your business?

The Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) is a legally binding carbon trading scheme that starts in April 2010. It will require qualifying organisations to report on carbon dioxide emissions, purchase allowances sufficient to cover carbon dioxide emissions and maintain adequate records of compliance.

Because we have been in dialogue with government on behalf of manufacturers since the Carbon Reduction Commitment was first proposed, we are best placed to understand not only what businesses need to do to comply with the scheme, but also how they can gain competitive and financial advantage from this new emissions trading scheme.

Our carbon reduction commitment support services include:

  • In-company CRC management briefings and workshops
  • CRC readiness review
  • CRC strategy development
  • Implementation and management
  • CRC compliance auditing
  • Early Action Metrics
  • Emission reduction services
  • Emissions trading
  • Legal advice

In-company CRC management briefings & workshops

Ideal for large organisations where there may be multiple sites, divisions and/or subsidiary companies. The format of a briefing followed by a workshop ensures that your management team have a common understanding of the implications of the scheme and its likely impact on your organisation. The workshop session requires participants to have collected some key data about emissions from their division/company. This is then used to confirm qualification for the CRC, if not already known, and identify key compliance risks across the business. The results from the workshop will be compiled into a short report recommending next steps for your organisation.

CRC readiness review

An organisation based review, with site visit, designed to determine qualification status, ballpark budget implications and potential cost benefits of early action. They results of the review can be used to help develop an appropriate strategy.

Strategy Development

Once qualification status has been determined an appropriate strategy needs to be defined. Our experts can work with you to develop the best approach for your business, ranging from minimum compliance to maximising the benefits of full scale early action.

Implementation and management

EEF can co-ordinate all your CRC related activities through a retainer package. This can include registration, footprinting, data collection and validation across multiple divisions and subsidiaries, annual reporting, evidence packs, allowance purchase and trading, and early action metrics.

CRC compliance audit

Recommended for more complex organisations, we can undertake an independent compliance audit to ensure you are complying with all relevant requirements.

Early Action Metrics

We can identify whether you would benefit from undertaking early actions to improve your league table position in the first phase of the scheme. We can provide automatic meter reading through our energy partners and our advisers can help you gain the Carbon Trust Standard.

Emission reduction services

We can help you define and implement an emissions reduction programme across your business, using our network of energy and carbon management experts.

Emissions trading

We can advise on allowance purchase and trading.

Legal advice

Using our legal partners, we can provide advice on legal issues relating to the CRC for example regulatory issues relating to on-site generation, implications of CRC for M&A and due diligence, landlord/tenant issues.
