The Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) is a new scheme, announced in the Energy White Paper 2007, which will apply mandatory emissions trading to cut carbon emissions from large non-energy intensive users in the private and public sectors by 1.1 MtC / year by 2020.
On 26th June Government launched Consultation on the implementation of the Carbon Reduction Commitment. This consultation invited views on how UK Government and the Devolved Administrations should implement the CRC, in order to secure the required emissions reductions. This consultation closed on 9th October 2007. The Government response to this consultation and analysis of responses will be published at the end of February 2008.
Defra will be holding another stakeholder workshop to discuss Government's response to the Consultation on Implementation Proposals for the CRC which is due to be published.
The workshop will aim to:
- provide an opportunity for Defra to update stakeholders on its response to the consultation on implementation proposals for the CRC, including particular policy areas such as CRC coverage, market design, monitoring, reporting and audit
- listen to views from stakeholders to help identify any remaining issues that need to be clarified in the summer 2008 consultation on the draft CRC regulations
- access and understand others thinking, network and exchange thoughts with others and discuss the details of the CRC proposal on key areas
The one day workshop is being held on Friday 7th March in London at the Café Royal, 68 Regent Street, London, W1B 5EL.
