The British Government has opted to lead by example with plans to restructure its procurement activities. The MoD aims to be the leader in sustainable procurement within the UK Government. As such its procurement activities will include sustainability considerations of all steps of the process.
Challenging targets have been set by the MoD and, as a result, the drive towards ‘sustainable procurement’ will impact on every business that supplies it, directly or indirectly.
Pilot project
A pilot project for aerospace and defence suppliers to the MoD has been established with the assistance of funding from the South East England Development Agency (SEEDA), and the support of the Farnborough Aereospace Consortium (FAC).
The project aims to provide clear advice and information to suppliers on what they need to do to meet the challenge of increasingly strict requirements brought about by sustainable procurement.
Free SWOT analysis
This project will enable EEF members to receive a free SWOT analysis of their business, determining their readiness for Sustainable Procurement, what they need to do and what opportunities for carbon/environmental improvement and cost savings are available. Free seminar
To support the project a free seminar, which has been funded by SEEDA, is hosted by the Farnborough Aerospace Consortium (FAC), and is supported by the Ministry of Defence and Aerospace OEMs, has been developed. The date for this event is 13 March 2008.
EEF's role
Recognising our strategic importance and influence, EEF has been asked specifically, by the event organisers, to raise awareness of this issue and encourage suppliers to public sector organisations to attend. Further information is available in the download section of this page.
