Leaks and spills
Very few commercial organisations deliberately deposit waste materials onto the land they occupy. However, many companies deposit polluting material accidentally, even if in small quantities.
Any spills of liquids or finely divided solids which fall on unpaved areas will result in some contamination of the ground beneath. Undetected leaks from storage tanks, pipework or drums may result in considerable contamination over long periods of time.
