You and your contractors - points to remember for good environmental practice

Remember that contractors may need as much, or even more, supervision and training as employees.

  • Ensure all contractors’ personnel receive induction training ‘before’ working on site.
  • Identify the significant environmental aspects and impacts for work with contractors.
  • Ensure contractors have adequate information about the materials they work with on site or dispose of on your behalf.
  • Agree on explicit written procedures for any issues which may lead to significant environmental impacts.
  • Clarify any issues which require you or your contractors to provide information to the Environment Agency. You’ll both need to know what’s expected of you.
  • Agree on your roles in the event of an environmental emergency (such as a spill) and practise emergency drill together where appropriate.
