Register of Environmental Legislation 2008

This Register of Environmental Legislation provides an accessible, comprehensive and simple guide to the principal environmental legislation that could affect a manufacturing company in England and Wales.

For the fundamentals on environmental management see the Environment Guide 2008. The Register and the Environment Guide will be helpful to companies of all sizes, including small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs).

The Register will be particularly useful to those companies who are conducting an initial environmental review or a compliance audit, and to companies who are introducing an environmental management system (EMS), whether or not the objective is certification or registration with an EMS standard or scheme.

Environmental legislation and regulatory requirements are in a constant state of evolution - new laws are introduced, and existing ones are amended or removed. This Register is up to date as of November 2007.

A major change in the legislation on Integrated Pollution Control came into force in 2000, when the Pollution Prevention and Control (
England and Wales) Regulations were published. The transition to the new regime was completed in 2007.
