What to do

- You have duties to assess and minimise the risks associated with all work activities likely to cause MSDs. These include manual handling, display screen work, assembly and machining, and numerous other tasks involving the frequent and/or repetitive movement of items and the application of manual force to move or support items.

- MSDs are the most common occupational illness in Great Britain, affecting around 1 million people a year. It is likely that MSDs will be the highest cause for work-related absence in your business.

- Realise the benefits to you and your employees of an effective musculo-skeletal disorder (MSD) assessment programme, using ergonomic principles. These are likely to exceed any outlay and could increase both your productivity and output.
