All work in a confined space should be supported, at all times, by suitable arrangements to cover all foreseeable emergencies, in line with the findings of the risk assessment. The emergency arrangements shall:
- reduce the risks, so far as is reasonably practicable, to any person required to put rescue arrangements into operation;
- include the provision and maintenance of resuscitation equipment, where it is likely to be required because of the specified risks;
- cover specific aspects including:
- raising the alarm and rescue arrangements;
- safeguarding the rescuers;
- fire safety;
- control of adjacent or nearby plant;
- provision of first aid;
- calling and assisting the public emergency services;
- training; and
- the size of openings to allow safe access and egress.
