Introduction
In this chapter, we examine the risks to people’s health and safety from lifting equipment provided for use at work.
All lifting equipment, regardless of industry type, comes under the Lifting Operations And Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER)(see Summary Sheet A22).
These regulations build on the requirements of the Provision And Use Of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER)(see Summary Sheet A12 . They should be considered together.
This does not include risks associated with lifting and carrying by people which is covered in manual handling.
