Skills for the future draws a crowd to Toyota

The crucial topic of skills and competencies for the future of manufacturing attracted 70 EEF members to our Member Connect event at Toyota in Burnaston, Derbyshire.

Those attending received first hand information on policies and plans for supporting apprentice and skills training from speakers representing the National Apprenticeship Service, manufacturing skills council SEMTA, and Aston University, sponsor of the new Engineering Academy.

Ken Stepney, HR Manager for People Development at JCB, outlined why his company invests in skills and the challenges it faces.

Members were able to provide feedback on their skills requirements to MPs and policymakers through a series of workshops during the event.
