Manufacturing is ready to take its rightful place in the economy

In the run-up to the General Election, EEF kept your needs high on the political agenda, providing analysis and commentary on key issues such as tax policy and support for our industry.

Our work to communicate forcefully and confidently on our sector's importance to the UK economy began with the successful launch last July of our Manufacturing: Our Future report - EEF's vision for the manufacturing sector.

We stepped up the pace in March with Manufacturing Week when members across the country took up the campaign. Many of you told your local MPs what our sector needs from policy makers, getting involved with events designed to persuade those who matter that manufacturing growth means greater success for the UK.

In Back at the Crossroads, our 'manifesto for manufacturing', we outlined the priorities the new government must endorse in its first 100 days.

In short, we told politicians that our sector needs a strategy which supports a dynamic manufacturing base in a diversified economy. That means creating a business environment for balanced growth built on flexible labour markets, a reformed tax system, targeted access to skills and training, investment in innovation and support for manufacturers wanting to grow.

Join us at our parliamentary reception

We are building links with the new government and the next generation of MPs. It's essential to keep up the momentum and we hope you will continue to help us spread the word.

EEF members are invited to join us on 29 June 2010 at a reception for members and MPs in the House of Commons.

Contact Steven Coventry at scoventry@eef.org.uk if you are interested in attending.
