EEF and HSE will be running a series of seminars which will be introduced by a theatre group exploring the key issues around carrying out an assessment. The speakers will then work through real-life practical examples of risk assessment and how it can be done successfully.
The seminars will take place in and around European Health and Safety Week in October. Participants will be invited to share their views on the sensible risk debate and to suggest ways to communicate a positive message on managing business risk and reducing the likelihood of harm.
Steve Walter, Health & Safety Adviser at EEF said:
"Businesses have to manage many risks in order to survive and prosper. Risk assessment can be a useful business tool if it is carried out properly and delivers a prioritised action plan. However, risk is often exaggerated because of fear of litigation, distorting what is expected under the law and tying businesses up in unnecessary red tape.
"We’re using actors and humour to help show how risk assessment can avoid becoming a bureaucratic nightmare and how it can be done successfully with a minimum of fuss."
