Manufacturers disappointed by European Parliament vote on Working Time opt out

EEF, the manufacturers' organisation, has expressed disappointment at this morning' s vote by the European Parliament in Strasbourg calling for the individual opt out from the average 48 hour working week to be phased out as soon as possible.
EEF Deputy Director of Employment Policy, David Yeandle, said:

"MEPs have not appreciated the importance of retaining this flexibility, which provides benefits for both employers and employees and, the damage that the removal of the individual opt out could do to the UK labour market. The Council of Ministers must now take a different approach when it responds to the Commission' s consultation and ensure that labour market flexibility is retained."
