Little pay pressure in manufacturing as settlements remain constant

The latest manufacturing pay settlements remained at the level at which they have been for the last 3 months of 2005, according to the latest information from EEF, the manufacturers' organisation.

The average level of settlements for the 3 months to the end of December was 2.9%, the same level as the revised figures for the 3 months to the end of both October and November.

In addition, during the 3 months to the end of December, the number of pay freezes rose slightly to just under 7% of all reported settlements, whilst the number of manufacturers reporting that they had deferred their pay settlement fell slightly to just under 4% of all settlements.

The January 2006 Pay Bulletin analyses 103 settlements covering 13,401 employees. Of these, the average level of settlement was 2.9% in October 2005, 2.8% in November 2005 and 2.9% in December 2005 although the figures for both November and December 2005 were based on relatively small samples of settlements. These figures may be subject to revision to take into account settlements for this period that have not yet been received.
