Save on energy costs and improve resource efficiency with new guidance from EEF

Manufacturers could get much needed cuts in their energy bills this year if they sign up to two new innovative services being launched by EEF, the manufacturers’ organisation.

The schemes form part of ‘Conserve’, the second element of EEF’s ‘Manufacturing Your Future’ campaign to help companies through the economic downturn.

In partnership with British Gas Business (BGB), EEF has set up a scheme to monitor energy management at their member companies. The ‘Energy Challenge’ will provide companies with advice and monitoring of their sites to see where energy is being wasted and how they can cut their energy bills.

Alongside this, EEF has also launched an energy benchmarking service to help companies negotiate the best possible tariffs for their energy supply. ‘Bench your bills’ will reveal what manufacturing businesses across the UK are paying for their gas and electricity, so companies can see whether they are paying a fair price for their sector, size of company and energy use.

"Companies who sign up to the scheme will be provided with quarterly data in order to track energy prices. The data will give them the hard evidence they need to get tough with their current provider - or make a switch to get a better deal. " says Roger Salomone, EEF’s Energy Adviser

As well as the two energy management schemes, EEF is providing manufacturers with:

a copy of Directions: Environment - EEF's new practical guidance on the environment

‘Stop Burning Money’ a guide to resource efficiency and the benefits it brings

'You got the Power’ - a guide to reducing energy bills

EEF member, JJ Churchill, has reduced electricity and gas consumption by 12% and 30% respectively and achieved a zero cost waste management system since introducing an extensive resource efficiency programme at its Midlands based plant.

"In addition to the cost savings, we're better placed than ever to win premium business from clients who are constantly demanding a higher standard of environmental compliance from their suppliers." said Andrew Churchill, Managing Director of JJ Churchill which provide precision engineering components to the aerospace, power generation, diesel engine and defence industries.
