EEF response to HSE strategy consultation

The Health and Safety Executive has consulted on a new draft strategy for health and safety in Great Britain

EEF broadly welcomed the content of HSE's draft strategy but called for some key changes, including:

- a clear statement that HSE is focussing on making the existing legal framework effective, not seeking new laws;

- recognition that workers have responsibilities as well as rights;

- inclusion of a commitment to reduce unnecessary paperework;

- more robust resistance of poorly-considered EU directives; and

- improvements to the quality and consistency of enforcement by local authorities.
