How to assess the intercultural competence of your staff

Your staff are likely to encounter a wide range of cultural differences during their working lives. How ready are they to recognise and accept this?

No matter where you are based, or what your business is, the chances are your staff are dealing with people from other cultures on a regular basis.  Perhaps your company is American-owned, or your staff work with people from other countries and cultures here in the UK.

Some people are able to absorb and respond to cultural differences with little apparent effort.  Others may struggle to accommodate the "differences" in attitude and approach which they encounter.  As an employer, you need to know how your staff will cope with these inevitable challenges.

The INCA Project has created a framework for assessing the intercultural competence of employees.  There are diagnostic tools, a framework for measurement, and a portfolio for recording evidence of achievement.

The tools include paper-based questions, role plays, and video-based scenarios.
