EEF comments on Labour's Infrastructure Commission plans

“We desperately need to move away from debating whether or not our infrastructure challenges exist, towards discussing how best to prioritise and address identified challenges. Sir John Armitt’s ambition was rightly to try and create a genuinely independent framework which arrives at a strategic assessment of infrastructure need.

“However, today's revised National Infrastructure Commission Draft Bill represents a missed opportunity to create that independent system as it gives Whitehall the right to set the priorities behind closed doors. Without true independence and open public engagement, the levels of cynicism which currently hinder our most pressing infrastructure projects even getting on the drawing board will persist.”
